ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

The Furniture Restoration Workshop is a hands-on four-Saturday course dedicated to restoring small pieces of wooden furniture.

Each participant may bring their own piece, subject to prior assessment and approval by the Atelier Encaixe team, and work on it throughout the workshop.

If you do not have a piece to bring, or if your proposed piece is not approved because it is unsuitable for the techniques covered, its dimensions, or the workshop’s duration, Atelier Encaixe will provide pieces from its own collection for participants to work on during the course.

Working with a real object and its specific needs, you will learn how to observe, assess and intervene, following the different stages of the restoration process.

The aim is not only to restore a piece, but also to understand the materials, techniques and decisions involved in a thoughtful and informed intervention.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Over the course of four Saturdays, you will work directly on a piece, following the different stages of its restoration.

You will learn how to:

• observe and assess the condition of the piece;

• identify problems and define an intervention strategy;

• carry out appropriate cleaning processes;

• consolidate and stabilise fragile elements;

• perform minor gluing and repairs;

• treat and nourish the wood;
