VILAMATERIA is a vibrant space for the development and experimentation of woodworking programs.
Created from matter. Developed through practice.
ABOUT
VILAMATERIA is a space dedicated to the study, practice, and sharing of knowledge related to wood, crafts, and material culture.
The project stems from the experience of Atelier Encaixe, a Portuguese workshop specializing in joinery, carpentry, and the conservation and restoration of heritage. After decades of professional practice—working with wooden structures, traditional joinery, and historical techniques—the desire arose to create a place where this knowledge could be explored, shared, and developed in a more open context.
HOW YOU LEARN
VILAMATERIA develops hands-on learning programs focused on wood construction, carpentry, traditional joinery, and ancestral techniques related to wood. Some programs also explore the preparation of natural and traditional wood products, reviving practices that were common in old workshops.
These programs combine traditional knowledge, contemporary tools, and real-world construction practice. In some cases, they also include guest instructors and experts who bring different approaches to the world of woodworking.
WHERE
VILAMATERIA is located in the Portuguese village of Quebradas – Alcoentre , where all programs take place. This rural setting provides a more relaxed pace and a direct relationship with the subject matter, creating ideal conditions for concentration, experimentation, and collaborative learning.
More than just a training space, VILAMATERIA seeks to be a place where knowledge of the craft develops through practice, linking artisanal tradition to contemporary creation.
