COURSE PROGRAM
Over the course of two weeks, participants will work step by step on the real construction of a traditional timber structure, going through all phases of the process:
Introduction to timber framing, safety, and work organization
Reading the wood and marking principles
Layout of structural elements
Manual cutting of traditional joints (mortise and tenon)
Fitting and finishing of joints
Introduction to and supervised use of power tools
Preparation of elements for assembly
Assembly of the structure in a real context
Final review, adjustments, and good finishing practices
The training is mostly practical, with direct supervision in a real working environment.
This workshop is conducted in collaboration with James Thomson (Scotland), a timber framing specialist instructor, together with Gonçalo Lopes Cardoso (Atelier Encaixe).
